He worked his way up the ranks until attaining a Captain position on a 2000 passenger auto ferry. As a Captain, he recognized the importance of neat and proper uniform insignia for himself and his crew. Vessel safety demanded that his passengers be able to easily identify crew members and their duties and responsibilities, in the event of a shipboard emergency.
